The Good
What went well
Looking back over the project, it is hard not to see it as a journey with hardly any bumps in the road. We had our challenges along the way; however, they were easily overcome, due to good communication in the team and with the charity, regular group meetings, and the assigning of tasks that focused on the individual strengths of each team member. Another area of success was our fundraising and awareness-raising activities.
Our bake sale was one such activity. We had set up our stall in Kingsmead Square at around 11 am on 13th August, and the weather was forecasted to reach a high of 35C. We had planned the stall with the target of raising £200, taking a realistic approach due to considering that the hot weather may impact our sales. However, this was not the case, and, with the combination of baked goods and t-shirts managed, we were able to raise a total of £775 during the sale, well exceeding what we had set as a target. We as a team feel that we all worked well together, with excellent consistent teamwork and organisation aiding us in smoothly running the stall.
The Bad
Difficulties faced and what could’ve been done better
Although there are areas where improvements could be made, there were no aspects that could be considered inherently ‘bad’. One area that faced difficulty and could’ve been improved upon was when we approached bakeries to ask for product donations for the bake sale. While we did manage to get a couple of donations, most bakeries we approached either said no or sent no response.
How we could’ve done better with this area was to give ourselves more time to approach and confirm donations, as we only undertook this over a period of two weeks. Doing so would’ve given us more time to research and find bakeries and receive responses from them. Another area where improvements could be made was that, although the t-shirt sale was successful, it is safe to say that we underestimated the response that we would get, and so if we had printed more, then we most likely would have sold more too.
